For Nominating Committee

Please describe your ideas for succession planning for future Zonta leaders and how you will identify, engage and recruit candidates.

Succession planning seeks to place the right people in the right positions in a defined organizational structure for a given timeframe. This process strengthens the organization because it does not only involve choosing and putting persons in critical or vacated positions; but, ensuring that the organization is able to prepare, empower and train people to positions that sustains the organization and who are ready and committed to perform duties and functions when needed.

In this light, succession planning for future Zonta leaders should consider the value chain in leadership and organizational development. There should be a conscious and sustained effort to ensure that the following are first addressed:

  • Zonta strategy and goals are clear and communicated to all Zontians
  • Criteria/qualifications, skillsets and competencies required for specific roles and functions in Zonta’s leadership structure are published and understood.
  • At all levels of Zonta, leadership skills development, competency-building, and institutional knowledge sharing are prioritized.

To identify, engage and recruit candidates who can hold critical and strategic positions towards achieving Zonta vision requires well-established succession plan. In particular, the following approaches must be instituted:

  1. Membership Development
  2. Profiling of Potential Leaders
  3. Leadership Development
  4. Commitment and Buy-ins of Leaders in Succession
