Achievements as a Zontian
As Area 2 Director on the Board of the District 17, I grew to know the Presidents and members of the Clubs within the Area and learnt of their projects, concerns and achievements. Bravo to their resilience during the Covid period . I had the wonderful privilege to serve and lead this Area.
As part of the larger District where, with other Area Directors, we shared our joys and pains and had the 1st hand opportunity to see the District workings and intricacies. I met the leaders and the up and coming one and learnt of their various contributions and strengths.
Business / Professional Information
Nature of business:
LEGAL PRACTICE
Responsibilities of position :
Running my legal practice in Real Estate and Private Clients, including Trusts. Spearheading projects to enlarge the reach and service type management decisions on the running of the overall practice from the Finance , Human Resource and Business Development.
Contribution of business/professional experience to the effective performance of positions:
I am a trained lawyer and have been in continuous practice since the start of my career. This has honed the necessity to keep fair and above board as I am in a trusted position. This has become so much part of my DNA and I believe that it is a useful quality in seeking out and bring out and encourage future leaders to come forward and stand for positions in the District. But the conduct whilst encouraging and bringing forth leaders has always to be fair and even handed.
Involvement in other organizations
Serving as advisor in my local church committee for legal advice. ( more than 5 years)
For Nominating Committee
Please describe your ideas for succession planning for future Zonta leaders and how you will identify, engage and recruit candidates.
We have to be able to spot the talent which sometimes is hidden. Some members are shy or often fear taking up leadership roles. In order to identify them, we have to attend different meetings or reach out in person, especially if the Zontian has served in any way big or small. The Zontian must be encouraged and commended. Confidence building is essential. Having journeyed through this before, I believe that I can see and walk alongside these potential leaders who share in the Zonta vision and encourage her/him to step up.
In this digital age, it is not so difficult to meet, as we can do so on many communication platforms. But it is also important to harness the skills and talents of those who can lead in the digital age. We can then find those who can revolutionise the mundane tasks. It is important to look for persons with 21st century mindset so that the District and ZI can be relevant to the future to make a better world for women and girls with foresight and visionary leadership.
